World Coffee
Do you know that Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is the most expensive coffee in the world?
The average price when ordering coffee from Gevalia (and they have a variety) is $7.45 for 8 oz.
Jamaica Blue Mountain is $25.95
It may be in short supply because Jamaica is an island. But the fact that we can and do sell it for that price means some really like it.
Its just a matter of taste!

i do know that!!

Coffee (Paperback)

Coffee (Paperback)

$18.35

In a world of high finance, unprecedented technological change, and cyber billionaires, it is easy to forget that a major source of global wealth is, literally, right under our noses. Coffee is one of the most valuable Southern exports, generating billions of dollars in corporate profits each year, even while the majority of the world’s 25 million coffee families live in relative poverty. But who is responsible for such vast inequality? Many analysts point to the coffee market itself, its price volatility and corporate oligarchy, and seek to "correct" it through fair trade, organic and sustainable coffee, corporate social responsibility, and a number of market-driven projects. The result has been widespread acceptance that the "market" is both the cause of underdevelopment and its potential solution. Against this consensus, Gavin Fridell provocatively argues that state action, both good and bad, has been and continues to be central to the everyday operations of the coffee industry, even in today’s world of "free trade". Combining rich history with an incisive analysis of key factors shaping the coffee business, Fridell challenges the notion that injustice in the industry can be solved "one sip at a time" – as ethical trade promoters put it. Instead, he points to the centrality of coffee statecraft both for preserving the status quo and for initiating meaningful changes to the coffee industry in the future.

This book presents coffee as a commodity that ties the world together, from the coffee producers and pickers who tend the plantations in tropical nations, to the middlemen and processors, to the consumers who drink coffee without ever having to think about how the drink reached their hands.

?What are you giving up for Lent we are asked. Our minds begin to whirl: Chocolate? Designer coffee? Social media? What if you or your church fastedcomparison? What if your family fasted accumulation? What if your office fastedgossip? 40 Days of Decrease guides readers through a study of Jesus? uncommon and uncomfortable call to abandon the world?s illusions, embrace His kingdom?s reality, and journey cross-ward and beyond. Each daily, 1000-word entry will includea devotional based on Jesus? cross-ward life;a reflection question to guide journaling or group discussion;a fast to inspire a tangible response;a thought-provoking Lenten quote;a sidebar into the historical development of Lent.

A History of New York in 101 Objects

A History of New York in 101 Objects

$6.98

?Delightfully surprising?A portable virtual museum?an entertaining stroll through the history of one of the world?s great cities? (Kirkus Reviews), told through 101 distinctive objects that span the history of New York, almost all reproduced in luscious, full color. Inspired by A History of the World in 100 Objects, Sam Roberts of The New York Times chose fifty objects that embody the narrative of New York for a feature article in the paper. Many more suggestions came from readers, and so Roberts has expanded the list to 101. Here are just a few of what this keepsake volume offers:-The Flushing Remonstrance, a 1657 petition for religious freedom that was a precursor to the First Amendment to the Constitution-Beads from the African Burial Ground, 1700s. Slavery was legal in New York until 1827, although many free blacks lived in the city. The African Burial Ground closed in 1792 and was only recently rediscovered-The bagel, early 1900s. The quintessential and undisputed New York food (excepting perhaps the pizza)-The Automat vending machine, 1912. Put a nickel in the slot and get a cup of coffee or a piece of pie. It was the early twentieth century version of fast food-The? I Love NY? logo designed by Milton Glaser in 1977 for a campaign to increase tourism. Along with Saul Steinberg?s famousNew Yorker cover depicting a New Yorker?s view of the world, it was perhaps the most famous and most frequently reproduced graphic symbol of the time. Unique, sometimes whimsical, always important, A History of New York in 101 Objects is a beautiful chronicle of the remarkable history of the Big Apple. The story [Sam Roberts] is telling is that of New York, and he nails it? (Daily News, New York).

Big Weed

Big Weed

$4.49

Marijuana legalization is the hottest story in the US today. 22 states have authorized sales in some form; Denver has more legal marijuana dispensaries than Starbucks franchises. We are witnessing the dawn of a new industry. And like the early days of gourmet coffee chains, the rules and players are being established on the fly. Christian Hageseth is the face of the revolution-an entrepreneur and father of three who worked in the white-collar professional world for 20 years before opening his first dispensary. The Founder and Chairman of Green Man Cannabis, the fastest-growing legalized marijuana company in the country, he’s the perfect tour guide through the wild frontier, where police hardly know what laws to enforce, or parents what to tell their kids. He paints a colorful picture not only of how he got into the business, but of the big interests that are eager to do the same-namely Philip Morris, Monsanto and a who’s who of Big Pharma. He predicts a future where the marijuana market splits in two: the high-end, artisanal market, supplied by individual growers and small farms, and the mass market, covered by the cigarette giants and anyone bold enough to compete with them. Much like beer and coffee, your brand of weed will be just one more reflection of your lifestyle. It’s an entrepreneur’s dream, and Hageseth invites us along inBig Weed as he pitches skeptical investors, negotiates a shaggy cast of colleagues, and builds the biggest business he can.

Bread, Wine, Chocolate

Bread, Wine, Chocolate

$10.49

Award-winning journalist Simran Sethi explores the history and cultural importance of our most beloved tastes, paying homage to the ingredients that give us daily pleasure, while providing a thoughtful wake-up call to the homogenization that is threatening the diversity of our food supply. Food is one of the greatest pleasures of human life. Our response to sweet, salty, bitter, or sour is deeply personal, combining our individual biological characteristics, personal preferences, and emotional connections. Bread, Wine, Chocolate illuminates not only what it means to recognize the importance of the foods we love, but also what it means to lose them. Award-winning journalist Simran Sethi reveals how the foods we enjoy are endangered by genetic erosion?a slow and steady loss of diversity in what we grow and eat. In America today, food often looks and tastes the same, whether at a San Francisco farmers market or at a Midwestern potluck. Shockingly, 95% of the world?s calories now come from only thirty species. Though supermarkets seem to be stocked with endless options, the differences between products are superficial, primarily in flavor and brand. Sethi draws on interviews with scientists, farmers, chefs, vintners, beer brewers, coffee roasters and others with firsthand knowledge of our food to reveal the multiple and interconnected reasons for this loss, and its consequences for our health, traditions, and culture. She travels to Ethiopian coffee forests, British yeast culture labs, and Ecuadoran cocoa plantations collecting fascinating stories that will inspire readers to eat more consciously and purposefully, better understand familiar and new foods, and learn what it takes to save the tastes that connect us with the world around us.

Combat-Ready Kitchen

Combat-Ready Kitchen

$26.41

Americans eat more processed foods than anyone else in the world. We also spend more on military research. These two seemingly unrelated facts are inextricably linked. If you ever wondered how ready-to-eat foods infiltrated your kitchen, you?ll love this entertaining romp through the secret military history of practically everything you buy at the supermarket. In a nondescript Boston suburb, in a handful of low buildings buffered by trees and a lake, a group of men and women spend their days researching, testing, tasting, and producing the foods that form the bedrock of the American diet. If you stumbled into the facility, you might think the technicians dressed in lab coats and the shiny kitchen equipment belonged to one of the giant food conglomerates responsible for your favorite brand of frozen pizza or microwavable breakfast burritos. So you?d be surprised to learn that you?ve just entered the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center, ground zero for the processed food industry. Ever since Napoleon, armies have sought better ways to preserve, store, and transport food for battle. As part of this quest, although most people don’t realize it, the U.S. military spearheaded the invention of energy bars, restructured meat, extended-life bread, instant coffee, and much more. But there?s been an insidious mission creep: because the military enlisted industry?huge corporations such as ADM, ConAgra, General Mills, Hershey, Hormel, Mars, Nabisco, Reynolds, Smithfield, Swift, Tyson, and Unilever?to help develop and manufacture food for soldiers on the front line, over the years combat rations, or the key technologies used in engineering them, have ended up dominating grocery store shelves and refrigerator cases. TV dinners, the cheese powder in snack foods, cling wrap. The list is almost endless. Now food writer Anastacia Marx de Salcedo scrutinizes the world of processed food and its long relationship with the military?unveiling the twi

Dark Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans Bag (6 oz)

Dark Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans Bag (6 oz)

$9.95

At the core of each of our dark chocolate covered coffee beans is what’s considered a rarity in the coffee world – a peaberry. A peaberry is a natural mutation of the coffee bean that occurs inside the coffee cherry so that when opened, there is only one little bean inside the cherry instead of the normal two. This kind of mutation only occurs in 5% of the world’s coffee. Peaberries tend to be smaller, rounder, and denser than the average bean and because only one bean develops in the cherry, they are known to have a more concentrated flavor than a typical coffee bean. Because there is no way to tell by looking at the outside of a cherry if a peaberry lies within, these little beans must be carefully hand-sorted and selected after washing and processing. For these bite sized pieces, we’ve carefully roasted these flavor packed peaberries and covered them in our premium dark chocolate to create a deliciously crunchy and semisweet treat.

With its breezy? 70s design vibe and the tone to match, it?s the book that celebrates what even occasional tipplers know?there?s nothing like a drink in the daytime to make you feel like you?re on vacation. And that?s before the alcohol kicks in.

Designing the Editorial Experience

Designing the Editorial Experience

$35.01

In a world of media that seems to be ever-changing, how do we define what a newspaper, magazine or journal physically is? Are we drinking our morning coffee on a Sunday as we sit down and read our newstablet? Look around any doctor’s office waiting room and you will find two people reading the same magazine, one holding the paper version, another on their phone. With so many mediums, designers need to evaluate the best formats to convey an editorial vision. InDesigning the Editorial Experience, authors Sue Apfelbaum and Juliette Cezzar will discuss what it means to design for multiple media. It features advice from professionals in both the design and editorial fronts -and digital strategists too- about what is constant and what is changing in the field. Inside, you will find examples of the best editorial design being produced today. In addition, explore the audiences for content, what forms the content takes, and how workflows are managed. This book provides a primer on the elements of editorial design that result in rich, thoughtful, and rewarding editorial experiences.
