Colombian Supremo
I have a question about Coffee imported from Colombia. Are chemicals added to the coffee before entering USA?

I am very curious about this question because my wife, a native of Colombia and I go down to Colombia quite often and bring back the good Colombian brew. I want to know why does it taste so different here in the USA. When I go to the grocery store and buy Colombiano Supremo it just doesn’t taste like the coffee down there. Are chemicals added to the coffee before it is exported to the United States. The coffee down in Colombia is the best in the world. Thanks for what you can send me.

i cant really tell you unless i try it my self and taste the difference but i have some knowledge on coffee and i can make a few suggestions.
basically, there are a few things that can affect the quality of coffee, its; taste and aroma. weather conditions, area where it comes from etc etc. there will be a great difference in the taste of coffees even from the same country or area. good quality coffee should have the same taste every time you buy it….
so to answer your question, i dont think that there are chemicals added because coffee would go bad. you cant do that with coffee actually BUT
1. maybe they sell you different quality coffee than the one you buy your self.
2. maybe they mix good columbia coffee with second class coffee and then they sell it to you. (that would be illegal too)

Women deliver themselves from subjugation by recovering their voices, by educating themselves, and by speaking out, in unison, against forces that have kept them under heel. The scope of Colombian Women: The Struggle Out of Silence is both personal and global: personal to the interviewees and to Elena GarcZs herself, as she tells her own story; and global, in that many features of the patriarchy and its dysfunction extend well beyond the borders of Colombia.

In 2000, the National Police of Colombia reported that 25,660 people met violent deaths in that country. According to the office of the U.N. A timely, evocative account of a reporter’s reckoning with her homeland’s volatile past Growing up in the coastal city of Barranquilla, Colombia, Silvana Paternostro indulged in the typical concerns of a privileged young girl: friendships and parties, school and family. But soon it became apparent that life in Colombia would not go on as usual. Strange planes appeared overhead, the harbingers of the marijuana drug trade that would explode into cocaine wars over the next decade, and soon after, a disputed election would lead to demonstrations and kidnappings targeting the affluent landed eliteincluding Paternostro’s family. A revolution was brewing, and the social inequalities reflected in her life would boil over into the most violent, most protracted, and most misunderstood civil war of our time. In My Colombian War , Paternostro journeys back to the place where her family and her closest friends still live, weaving authentic experience into a history of this ongoing conflict. Through interviews she allows us to witness the treacherous war zone that Colombia has become, projected on the daily lives of its citizens. Paternostro’s book is a stunning, comprehensive narrative of Colombia’s past and present.

Salt and the Colombian State

Salt and the Colombian State

$23.76

In republican Colombia, salt became an important source of revenue not just to individuals, but to the state, which levied taxes on it and in some cases controlled and profited from its production. The salt trade consistently accounted for roughly ten percent of government income. In the town of la Salina de Chita, in Boyac province, thermal springs offered vast amounts of salt, and its procurement and distribution was placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance. Focusing his study on la Salina, Joshua M. Rosenthal presents a fascinating glimpse into the workings of the early Colombian state, its institutions, and their interactions with local citizens during this formative period. Although historians have cited the state’s weakness, and in many cases, its absence in local affairs, Rosenthal counters these assumptions by documenting the primary role the state held in administering contracts, inspections, land rights, labor, and trade in la Salina, and contends that this was not an isolated incident. He also uncovers the frequent interaction between the state and local residents, who used the state’s liberal rhetoric to gain personal economic advantage. Seen through the lens of the administration of la Salina’s salt works, Rosenthal provides a firsthand account of the role of local institutions and fiscal management in the larger process of state building. His study offers new perspectives on the complex network of republican Colombia’s political culture, and its involvement in provincial life across the nation.
